Championship Tennis Teams Gifted New Travel Van from The Law Office of Thomas J. Henry

January 26, 2023

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Law Office of Thomas J. Henry purchased a new travel van for one of the winningest programs in the history of the Southland Conference for any sport, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders tennis teams.

The gift included a custom wrapped vehicle to travel to road matches. A&M-Corpus Christi has won 21 titles on the men's side including the regular season the last two years and the tournament in 2021, while the women have won nine titles and have made back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances.

"Islanders Tennis student-athletes and coaches will be forever grateful to Thomas J. Henry for his generosity. This Mercedes van will elevate our team travel, performance, safety and experience to another level. This gift from Mr. Henry brings tremendous pride to Islanders Tennis, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and the Corpus Christi community. We are so grateful for this gift and so excited to start this season traveling in our new Islanders Tennis Mercedes van," said Islanders head coach Steve Moore. "Thank you Mr. Henry and go Islanders."

The new van will greatly assist the Islanders in traveling to 14 women's matches away from home and 13 men's.

Thomas J. Henry had this to say about the gift, "Community involvement has always been a central tenet of my law firm. The success we achieve on behalf of our clients allows us the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on our local and global communities. This van was a great opportunity to celebrate the tenacity, teamwork, and grit the Islander Tennis men's and women's teams have displayed season after season. I wish the Islanders athletes, coaches, and staff many happy miles as they continue to write their winning history."

Men's tennis has reached the NCAA Tournament nine times and the women five including back-to-back in 2021 and 2022. Both teams reached the top-90 nationally last year out of 316 Division I schools, and it was the third consecutive year the women cracked the top-85.

"Islander Athletics is so grateful to Thomas J. Henry for this incredibly generous gift for our Tennis program," said Interim Director of Athletics Adrian Rodriguez. "This van provides our men's and women's teams the ability to get to their competitions in a manner that allows them to be at peak performance and to uphold their great success and championship tradition on the court."
