Tennis Registers Unbeaten Day at Prairie View A&M

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – Beginning the 2023 season on a high note, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi men's and women's tennis programs swept doubleheaders over Prairie View A&M on Thursday.
 
The men were victorious 4-0 and 5-0, while the women won 4-1 and 5-0.
 
"I'm very proud of the way we competed today. We were definitely a little tight at first which is natural in your first match of the season, but I thought we did a good job sticking with the process to bounce, breathe and keep our minds only on the present point. Prairie View played excellent doubles in both matches and we were in a battle from the beginning. I loved the toughness of our team today and the way everyone encouraged and lifted each other up! We were a true team today," said head coach Steve Moore.
 
A 4-0 day came from senior Nathan Schwartz. He teamed with fellow senior Pascal Lorieul to win a pair of doubles matches and then won two singles competitions in straight sets.
 
The women responded after dropping the first doubles point by going unbeaten in singles. Freshman Sofia Pinto won a pair of singles matches including a three-setter on court one.
 
The A&M-Corpus Christi women knocked off a PVAMU squad that reached the finals of the SWAC Tournament last year. The Islanders improved to 35-0 all-time against PVAMU on the women's side and 38-0 on the men's.
 
Up next, the women will travel to Las Cruces, New Mexico on Tuesday at 11 a.m. to face New Mexico State.
