UTRGV Squeaks Past A&M-Corpus Christi 1-0

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's soccer team fell to UTRGV in the South Texas Showdown Sunday night at the Dr. Jack Dugan Soccer and Track & Field Stadium in the second matchup between the two teams this year.

"We're going to continue to fight on," said head coach Craig Shaw about the game, now looking to conference play. "I think we need to continue doing what we're doing and the results will come."

Junior Morgan Westbury led the attack for the Islanders, taking four shots with one on goal. As a collective team, A&M-Corpus Christi amassed 12 shots with Westbury's being the lone one on target. Mai-Lisa Atis, a freshman, took two shots during her 60-minute campaign on the field to sit second for the Islanders.

The Vaqueros scored a goal just over 24 minutes into the game as Amy Hislop went for an unassisted goal. Junior Kennedy Stelling played all 90 minutes in the net, earning two saves during the matchup.

Both teams took two corner kicks on the night with the Islanders having one a piece each half and UTRGV taking both of theirs in the second half. The two teams combined for a total of 26 fouls on the night as well.

A&M-Corpus Christi will return to the pitch as they enter conference play against Lamar on September 11 at 1:00 p.m. on the road.
