BEAUMONT, Texas – Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's women's soccer team fell to Lamar 1-0 in the first conference game of the season on Sunday afternoon at the LU Soccer Complex.

"There are so many positives from this game," said head coach
Craig Shaw. " We outplayed an undefeated team and lost on a penalty kick. I'm proud of my team."

The Cardinals scored the lone goal of the game 32:15 into the competition for an early 1-0 lead.

A&M-Corpus Christi finished with a total of six shots on the afternoon with two of them being on target. The Islanders shot six goals in the campaign, only allowing a single goal and earning seven saves on 15 shots.
In the first half, the Islanders took three shots with one being on target, taken by sophomore

Mai-Lisa Atis both attempted a shot as well in the first 45 minutes.
Within the next 45 minutes of play, junior
Rebekah George took a shot on goal as
Megan Guy, a sophomore, took another shot as well. Junior
Reese Cross took a chance at the 83:20 mark with another shot.

Kennedy Stelling faced five shots, earning one save during the first portion of the game. Once the second half began, she continued fighting on, facing eight more shots and adding six saves to her total on the afternoon.

The Islanders will return to action at home as they play host to HBU on Friday, September 16 at 7:00 p.m.
