Islanders Drop Road Tilt at A&M-Commerce

COMMERCE, Texas – Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's women's soccer team fell to Texas A&M-Commerce 4-0 on the road Friday night at Lion Soccer Field.
 
The Islanders combined for 15 shots in the effort as the Lions took 20 with nine coming on goal. Nine of the shots took place in the first half with six coming in the latter for the Islanders. As a team, A&M-Corpus Christi combined for eight corner kicks.
 
Sophomore Morgan Westbury led the attack for the Islanders with four shots, one being on target. Classmate Rachel Loetzer took three on the night with one on the goal, tied with junior Rebekah George. George also had three shots with one being on target as well.
 
A&M-Commerce scored the first goal of the game at the 5:55 mark to take an early 1-0 lead. They later scored again with 36:04 on the clock for a 2-0 advantage, which they held into the half.

The Lions scored the third goal of the game with the clock reading 58:33 in the second half. The final goal of the game came at the 79:24 mark for the Lions in the latter part of the matchup.

"I trust this team to rebound on Sunday," said head coach Craig Shaw.

Junior Kennedy Stelling began the match in the net, earning four saves in the first 45 minutes of the game. Entering the second half, sophomore Zoe Theriot entered the goal for the Islanders, fighting her way to earning one save.
 
The Islanders hold a 3-2 record in conference play, tied with the Lions with a similar record, both sitting tied for second in the conference.
 
A&M-Corpus Christi will take a day of rest to travel home to host the UIW Cardinals Sunday afternoon at 1:00 p.m at the Dr. Jack Dugan Soccer & Track Stadium.
