CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Setting the program record for goals scored in a season, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's women's soccer team defeated Nicholls 3-1 at the Dr. Jack Dugan Soccer & Track Stadium Friday for its third consecutive win.
Junior
Megan Guy picked up where she left off in her last contest, scoring the first goal of the night at the 4:19 mark with an assist by sophomore
Storm Harris. The Colonels scored just over 19-and-a-half minutes into the game.
Maggie Murray, a junior, scored the second goal for the Islanders with just 30 seconds left in the first half to regain the lead going into halftime. Redshirt Junior Natalie Gonzales assisted Murray in the effort. The third and final goal of the game came from
Molly Arens with an assist by sophomore
Morgan Westbury at the 74:07 mark.
Zoe Theriot, a sophomore, earned the lone save for the Islanders in the first half before being relieved by junior
Kennedy Stelling in the latter portion of the game. Theriot was credited with the victory.
As a collective unit, A&M-Corpus Christi out shot Nicholls 16-5 with nine shots coming in the first half and seven in the second. The Islanders combined for three corner kicks to the Colonels' two.
A&M-Corpus Christi will return to the pitch on Friday, September 30 on the road at Texas A&M-Commerce.
