FORT WORTH, Texas – A busy weekend for the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi tennis programs begins Thursday at 8 a.m. when the women compete at ITA Regionals hosted by TCU, while the men travel to San Antonio for the UTSA Invitational on Friday at 9 a.m.

The women will be sending seven singles players and three doubles teams to regionals. The men will travel a trio including senior Matthieu Peres and freshmen Tomas Quesada Perez and Lucas Schurdevin.

Six of the seven women competing will begin in the preliminary draw and must win two rounds to join junior Emma Aucagne in the main bracket. The Islanders will also have the teams of Aucagne and freshman Palina Saulevich, juniors Naomi Moi McKenzie and Valeria Cherfus, and junior Victoire Delattre and freshman Anais Brion in the main doubles draw of 64.

"The Texas Region is the toughest region in the nation, and we are super excited to be competing. These girls have worked super hard and have improved tremendously in the past month. Their fitness and mental toughness have especially improved. We are looking forward to playing each point with intensity, controlling what we can control and being an incredibly unified family. Go Islanders," said head coach Steve Moore.

McKenzie is the No. 1 seed in the preliminaries. She'll face Isabelle Bahr in the first round who played No. 1 singles for UTRGV last season. Brion is the No. 3 seed and is pitted against Kate Malazonia who played No. 2 singles from Texas State.

Saulevich is the No. 6 seed and will square off with Sofia Fortuno who played No. 4 singles for Texas State. Cherfus is the No. 11 seed and will take on Ioana Dumitrescu from UT Arlington.

Freshman Sofia Pinto is the No. 13 seed and will play Noelia Lorca who played No. 3 singles for Lamar. Delattre will round it out with a first round match against Magda Tuells who is in her first season at UTSA.

Aucagne will play in the main draw for the second year in a row. Last year, she went toe-to-toe with 13th-seeded Gianna Pielet from Texas A&M 6-4, 7-5 in the first round after winning two preliminary matches.

For the men, the brackets have not yet been released but are expected to be revealed Thursday.

"This is great tournament with lots of good schools including Miami and Arkansas. These guys have worked with incredible focus and commitment. I really, really love the attitude and work ethic of this team. I'm super excited for the chance to compete, control what we can control and play each present point with intensity," said Moore.
