CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas -
Emma Crump, a sophomore defender, was named the Southland Conference Defensive Player of the Week for Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's soccer Tuesday morning.
"I know Crump will dedicate this award to her fellow defenders," said head coach
Craig Shaw. "She helps lead the best back line in the conference. It's well deserved for her and the team."
Crump played all 180Â combined minutes against HBU at home and UIW on the road, both resulting in victories for the Islanders. She assisted the defense in holding each team to only one goal apiece in each contest.
"Emma is a force in the heart back line," said assistant coach
Hunter Nail, a defensive specialist. "She does her job very well and showed this weekend why she is a top defender in the conference."
While playing for the defense, Crump has taken four shots in her 2022 campaign with one being on goal. She has started six of the seven games she's played in this season, only missing one contest, helping the Islanders to a 5-3 record. Crump remains a staple for the team, having played five entire games thus far with four 90-minute contests being consecutive.
She will return to action with the team on Friday this week against Nicholls at the Dr. Jack Dugan Soccer & Track Stadium.
