Guy's Hat Trick Fuels 4-1 Win Over UIW

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's women's soccer program defeated UIW on the road, fueled by sophomore Megan Guy's three goals in the effort at Gayle and Tom Benson Stadium Sunday afternoon.

"To come out and show the energy we did was so impressive," said head coach Craig Shaw. "It's great to get two in a row and our aim is to make it three in a row."

The Islanders took an early 1-0 victory when Guy scored the first goal of the game just over two minutes into the game. She later followed up her former goal with another, making the ball into the net at the 16:01 mark to extend the lead to 2-0. She scored her final goal of the game with a hat trick to put the team up by three to nothing. Freshman Mai-Lisa Atis was given the opportunity earn a goal in her first collegiate penalty kick, placing the Islanders ahead 4-0 in the first half.

Junior Molly Arens earned two assists to tie the program career-best mark in the category at seven, all of them coming in the 2022 campaign. Junior Reese Cross connected with one of Guy's goals for the third assist credited to the Islanders. Guy's three goals ties the program-high six points scored in one game.

The lone goal for the Cardinals came at the 51:36 mark, just squeaking by sophomore Zoe Theriot. Theriot fought for six saves in the win with four in the first half and two in the latter portion of the game. She played all 90 minutes for the Islanders in the net.

As a team, the Islanders combined for 12 shots with 10 of them coming in the first 45 minutes. A&M-Corpus Christi had four corner kicks, all in the first half of the game.

A&M-Corpus Christi will host Nicholls at home at 7:00 p.m. on September 23 at the Dr. Jack Dugan Soccer and Track Stadium.
