Brion & Saulevich Win Singles Matches at Javelina Jam

KINGSVILLE, Texas – Competing in the top singles flight of the Javelina Jam, freshmen Anais Brion and Palina Saulevich each picked up wins for the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's tennis program Friday and Saturday at the Javelina Tennis Courts.

Brion tallied victories over Prairie View A&M and UIW, while Saulevich notch a win over Texas A&M-Kingsville.

"We are super proud of Anais and Palina. They played in the top flight of a tough tournament and competed with great heart. Most importantly, they have a great attitude about learning and developing. They are super coachable! We talk a lot about adding chess pieces to your game and they are working super hard on that concept. But the one thing that is mandatory on this team is competing with heart and fight, and they were great at that this weekend," said head coach Steve Moore.

Brion's win over PVAMU came in straight sets 6-4, 6-2. She then grinded out a three-setter over UIW's Sofia Franco Salcedo 5-7, 6-3, 11-9. Franco played No. 1 singles for the Cardinals last year.

Saulevich cruised to a 6-2, 6-3 win over Texas A&M-Kingsville's Renata Gonzalez. In her final match, she went toe-to-toe with the top student-athlete from Texas State but dropped a very close one 6-3, 3-6, 10-7 to Andrea Pineda.

The women's team will be back in action next weekend when they travel to Fort Worth, Texas for ITA Regionals.
