Islanders Score Program Record Eight Goals In Rout of Panthers

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's women's soccer program scored a program-record high eight goals in an 8-1 victory over Prairie View A&M at the Dr. Jack Dugan Soccer and Track & Field Stadium Sunday afternoon.

"It feels good to be honest," said head coach Craig Shaw. "It wasn't just the score; it was the soccer that we played. We played very well and got a lot of people on the ball and into the game."

Morgan Westbury, a junior, scored a team-high three goals in the performance, tying the program record with former teammate Samantha Palomino. Her first goal of the day was the initial score of the game to put the Islanders ahead 1-0 with the help of sophomore Gracie Gill. Later, Westbury went on to score two goals within less than a minute of each other with the first coming off a penalty kick. Just three seconds short of a minute later, she earned an unassisted goal off of a hat trick, the second in program history, at the 84:06 mark to get the final goal of the game.

Classmate Maggie Murray came in second on the day for scoring, tying her season-high performance against UTRGV. She placed the ball in the net 24:45 into the game with the help of Megan Guy, a sophomore, earning her first assist of the season. Murray struck again before the first half concluded, kicking in her second score of the game at the 36:40 mark. She had assistance from teammates Reaghan Lang and Emily Levy, a grad student and sophomore respectively.

Guy scored a goal herself just moments before assisting Murray just under 24 minutes into the game with Molly Arens, a junior, helping her out. Arens earned two assists in the game, placing her near the top of all NCAA women's soccer programs with five assists in her campaign thus far.

Freshman Mai-Lisa Atis fought her way to her first collegiate goal at the 57:42 mark with assists coming from Murray and Arens.

The Islanders permitted only one goal in the game, coming in the first half, ten minutes into the game. Levy and sophomore Zoe Theriot both saw playing time in the game, earning 45 minutes a piece.

A&M-Corpus Christ will take a week-long break before returning for another home match against UTRGV in the South Texas Showdown being held at the Dr. Jack Dugan Soccer and Track & Field Stadium.
