Baseball Announces Matt Parker as Assistant Coach and Recruiting Coordinator

August 26, 2022

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi baseball program announced the addition of Matt Parker to its staff as an Assistant Coach and Recruiting Coordinator Friday morning.

"When talking about Parker, people mention that someone was finally able to get him out of Oklahoma," said head coach Scott Malone. "He is really well known in our profession. He wins and recruits and develops players at a high level. I got Parker's name from Dan Heefner, the head coach at Dallas Baptist University, and when you know his pedigree and where's he's been, you hold his word in high esteem."

Before arriving on the Island, Parker amassed a 467-152 career record, amounting to a winning percentage of .785 all-time as a head coach. As a head coach, he has earned eight 40+ win seasons with four of those being 50+ win seasons. Under his tutelage as the lead of a program, Parker's teams have never had a losing season.

"I appreciate Coach Malone for giving me this opportunity," said Parker. "My wife, Lindsey, and our twins, Courtney and Charleigh, are excited to join the Islander family! I couldn't be happier to get the opportunity to help build upon the foundation already laid. The Island University is such a unique spot to grow as a student-athlete, and I look forward to watching that happen with our players!"

Most recently, he served as the baseball head coach and athletic director at Eastern Oklahoma State, earning a 142-39 record over the course of four seasons, including a COVID-shortened season. Under his leadership from June 2018 until this past season, he won two NJCAA Region II Tournament Championships as well as two Regular Season Championships, both coming in 2021 and 2022.

Numerous other honors were earned under his oversight with the Mountaineers, highlighted by a player taken in the MLB Draft in the seventh round. Nineteen of his student-athletes went on to sign Division I Letters of Intent to play at the next level. He coached three NJCAA All-Americans with 22 All-Region Performers while winning two NJCAA Region II Coach of the Year distinctions in 2021 and 2022.

Prior to Eastern Oklahoma State, he spent seven seasons at Oklahoma Wesleyan as a head coach and assistant athletic director. His time there was highlighted by four regular season conference championships, three conference tournament championships and two NAIA World Series trophies in 2014 and 2017. His performances earned the respect of his colleagues, winning four Conference Coach of the Year honors (2012, 2014, 2017, and 2018) with two ABCA/Diamond Sports Company Region Coach of the Year honors in 2014 and 2017.

Over the course of seven seasons with the Eagles, Parker coached his teams to a combined 325-113 overall record, sitting at a .742 winning percentage. He oversaw 68 All-Conference Performers with 19 winning Conference Gold Gloves. He coached both an NCCAA National Player of the Year and NCCAA National Pitcher of the Year along with having one player named a Rawlings National Gold Glove Winner.

Parker spent three seasons as an assistant coach at California Baptist University, helping them to an NAIA World Series appearance in 2010. As a Lancer, he assisted them in winning two Golden State Athletic Conference Championships in 2010 and 2011, coaching eight All-Americans and five MLB Draft selections.

As an undergraduate, Parker studied at Lyon College where he graduated Cum Laude with a bachelor's in business administration. He attained his master's at Henderson State University in sports administration, graduating Summa Cum Laude in May 2007.

Parker is married to his wife Lindsey, who are parents to twins Charleigh and Cortland.
