CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's soccer team fell to undefeated Texas State 2-1 in the home opener at Dr. Jack Dugan Soccer and Track & Field Stadium Thursday night.
Â
"We don't like losing, but a lot of teams could have given up at a 2-0 deficit, but we closed the gap," said head coach
Craig Shaw. "They're a great team, school and program with great resources and we closed the gap from last year."
Â
Natalie Gonzalez, a redshirt junior, scored the lone goal of the night for the Islanders, receiving assistance from freshman
Mai-Lisa Atis who was credited with the assist. Joining her in an effort to score was sophomore
Morgan Westbury with one shot on target.
Â
The Islanders held the Bobcats to a scoreless first half until Texas State scored twice within three minutes to take a 2-0 lead. The team fought back, scoring just under six minutes later to cut the deficit in half, falling just short of the draw.
Â
A&M-Corpus Christi returns to action against Prairie View A&M on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. at the Dr. Jack Dugan Soccer and Track & Field Stadium.
