COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Going up against the No. 7 seed in the NCAA Tournament, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's tennis program left it all on the court in a 4-0 defeat to Texas A&M on Friday at the Mitchell Tennis Center.

The Islanders (22-4) went up against three nationally ranked singles players and a pair of nationally ranked doubles teams from the Aggies (31-1), who won both the SEC regular season and conference tournament championships.

"We are incredibly proud of these special, high-character Islanders. It took one of the best teams in the nation to end this amazing season. We fought with all our hearts today against a team good enough to win the national championship. We never quit all year and we never quit today. All season long when there was a fork in the road this group kept taking the character road, and we will always be proud of them for that," said head coach Steve Moore.

In doubles, the Aggies grabbed courts two and three. On court one, sophomores Emma Aucagne and Emma Honore trailed 5-2 in an unfinished match against the No. 6 ranked duo in the country in Jayci Goldsmith and Tatiana Makarova. It came after Aucagne and Honore defeated Baylor at the NCAA Tournament last season.

Aucagne was also standing her ground in singles. After dropping the first set 6-2 to the eighth-ranked player in the nation Carson Branstine, Aucagne was tied 3-3 in the second in an unfinished match.

Another tight one was being played on court four. Sophomore Leopoldine Boisseau dropped the first set 6-0 but was leading 4-3 in the second when the Aggies clinched. On court five, sophomore Victoire Delattre led 4-2 in the first set but was down 6-4, 4-1 when play stopped.

In was the fifth NCAA Tournament appearance in program history and second in a row. The Islanders earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament after winning the Southland Conference Championship for the second year in a row. Over the last two SLC Championships, A&M-Corpus Christi has won six matches by the combined score of 25-2.
