GULF SHORES, Ala. – In its first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance in program history, the 15th-seeded Texas A&M-Corpus Christi beach volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to second-seeded TCU on Wednesday in the first round.

A&M-Corpus Christi (21-13) represented the Southland Conference and earned the league's automatic bid after going 3-0 at the SLC Tournament.

"I'm extremely proud of how my team played during their first appearance at the NCAA Beach Volleyball Championship. We didn't win the dual against TCU, but we played without intimidation. This tournament will give us the experience we need to elevate our level of play to return in 2023," said head coach
Gayle Stammer.

A tight match was going on court three. Sophomore
Tori Johnson and freshman
Jade Bennett were nipped in a close 21-17 first set and trailed just 18-15 in the second when the match went unfinished.

Another unfinished match came on court four. Graduate
Aurora Carnes and senior
Micaela Mirabal barely fell 21-19 in the first set and were down 18-9 in the second when TCU (39-3) clinched.

It wrapped-up a historic season for the Islanders who were 11-0 against SLC opponents and garnered all five pairs on the SLC All-Conference Teams.
