SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's baseball team earned a victory in the regular-season finale over UIW 6-2 at Daniel Sullivan Field to clinch the seventh seed for the Southland Conference Tournament.

"It was the pitching on a Sunday to limit a really good offense that was on the past two days," said head coach Scott Malone. "Early runs helped us to breathe and the home run by [sophomore] Josh Caraway was a huge one."

Brandon Petkoff kicked off his final regular-season game for the Islanders as a sophomore with a home run out to left-center field to draw first blood in the second inning. Sophomore Josh Caraway attempted to keep the momentum rolling with a single, but was ultimately left on base.

Senior Steven Rivera-Chijin came home in the third inning when sophomore Diego Johnson doubled which allowed Brendan Ryan, a junior, to advance to third putting two in scoring position. With both on base, sophomore Tre Jones stepped up to the plate and smacked the second home run of the game out to left field to give the Islanders a 5-0 lead.

Another home run was on the docket for A&M-Corpus Christi as Caraway hit one out to left field in the seventh inning to extend the lead to 6-1. Caraway went a perfect three-for-three behind the plate and earned an RBI and a run with both coming from the home run.

Petkoff was the only Islander besides Caraway to get multiple hits on the day, accounting for two of the team's eight. Jones earned three runs batted with the home run with it being his lone hit of the day. Ryan and Johnson earned one hit apiece to assist the team in its endeavors.

Senior Leo Perez came to the mound for the start and went 5.2 innings with four strikeouts and only one earned run before relief came in the sixth inning. Sophomore Sebastian Mejia came out for the Islanders and fought valiantly to close out the last 3.1 innings of the game.
