CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Texas A&M-Corpus Christi baseball will travel to Hammond, La. to compete in the first round of the Southland Conference Tournament as the seventh seed.
Â
"We're ready to go on the road and play our best baseball," said head coach
Scott Malone. "We have a talented and experienced team that has played well in the post-season before."
All eight teams concluded conference play Saturday afternoon to determine the hosts as the top two schools would hold a four-team regional. The winner of each regional will go on to face off in the second round of the tournament to decide the league champion in a best two-out-of-three series held May 26-28 at the highest remaining seed. The conference champion will then receive an automatic qualifying bid for the NCAA Division I Baseball Tournament.
Â
The Islanders (26-26, 10-14) are pitted against No. 2 Southeastern (24-27, 14-10) on Thursday evening at 6:00 p.m. Within the same regional headed to Hammond will be No. 3 New Orleans and No. 6 HBU. In the second section of the tournament will be host No. 1 McNeese along with No. 4 Nicholls, No.5 Northwestern State and No. 8 UIW.
A&M-Corpus Christi looks to build upon momentum established at the end of the season, winning six of their last eight games with the last against UIW in the regular-season finale on the road.Â
