CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi baseball team matched up with the Hooks, the Double-A affiliate of the Astros, where they fell 6-2 at Whataburger Field.
"The last five innings, the pitchers started pounding the zone and putting pressure on the Hooks," said head coach
Scott Malone. "Hopefully we can take the positives out of this game and turn it into a good weekend."
The Islanders saw a multitude of pitchers step up to the mound with sophomore
Kennedy Parks, a transfer, getting the nod for the start. Parks pitched for an inning before senior
Leo Perez took the mound to start the second. He also went an inning before
Cassius Shy, a senior, took the mound for an inning of work.

Henry Bird earned 1.1 innings of work before junior
Justin Lewis came in for relief. Lewis struck out the first batter he saw before finishing out the inning. Lewis earned another strikeout for the first out of the sixth before sophomore
Sebastian Mejia saw his time to shine.
Mejia stayed in through the sixth inning before
Dom Lopez, a sophomore, came in for the seventh. First baseman
Steven Rivera-Chijin, a senior, and
Tyler Linneweber, a sophomore, helped Lopez out by catching a runner trying to steal second. Sophomore
Dylan Johnson finished out the game for the Islanders.
Sophomore
Tre Jones scored first for the Islanders, slamming a home run out to right field to score the first run of the game in the fourth inning. Jones later hit a double out to left field in the eighth to earn an RBI on the night as
Brandon Petkoff, a sophomore, came in to score.
Freshman
Chance Reisdorph collected a couple hits in the performance as did
Tre Jones after his home run. Sophomore
Josh Caraway also earned a hit on the night.
A&M-Corpus Christi will hit the road to face Southeastern in a three-game series in Hammond, La. this weekend, beginning on Friday at 6:00 p.m.
