Late Bats Not Enough in Series Finale at UNO

NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi baseball team lost the series finale 14-6 against UNO while fighting through heavy rain in the last couple of innings at Maestri Field.

"I think we knew it was going to be a tough one coming into Sunday," said head coach Scott Malone. "They got six and a third innings out of their starter and set the tone by putting zeros up."

Senior Steven Rivera-Chijin earned a couple of runs for the team, coming in to score in the fifth and seventh innings with a home run in the latter. Sophomore Max Puls scored once along with junior Justin Taylor and freshmen John Maldonado Jr. and Cole Modgling.

Sophomore Sebastian Mejia was named the starter for the first time in his career on Sunday, going 1.1 innings and only allowing one run during his time on the mound. Jaime Ramirez Jr., a fellow sophomore, came out to the field for an inning of work after pitching in last night's victory.

The sophomore pitching attack continued when JT Moeller came into the game in the bottom of the third. He had the longest performance with 2.1 innings, collecting two strikeouts in turn. Freshman Clay Westbrook saw time as well at 0.1 innings before senior Cassius Shy came in for relief followed shortly by Tyler Miller, a senior. Miller pitched for two innings even before another senior in Daniel Nelson came out to close the game.

As the Islanders return home, they will look toward the South Texas Showdown against UTRGV this Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. at Chapman Field.
