Islanders Breeze to 5-0 Home-Opening Victory

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – On a chilly day, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi beach volleyball program heated it up on the courts with a 5-0 sweep over Mary Hardin-Baylor at the Dugan Stadium Courts in the team's home opener.
 
At the top of the lineup, the reigning SLC Pair of the Week winners Brooke Pertuit and Giuliana Poletti Corrales registered a 21-9, 21-8 victory for the Islanders (6-3). The duo improved to 7-2 on court one.
 
On court two, senior Migle Mazurkeviciute and junior Shea Slusser tallied a 21-7, 21-7 win.
 
A new team played together on court three as freshman Elizabeth Cortez made her first appearance of the season with sophomore Tori Johnson and won 21-11, 21-5. It was a similar result on court four where grad student Micaela Mirabal and senior Aurora Carnes turned in a 21-5, 21-12 victory.
 
Rounding it out was the duo of grad student Kiley Lewis and freshman Hannah Doyle. They recorded a 21-8, 21-7 win on court five.
 
It was the first-ever meeting between the Islanders and UMHB. A&M-Corpus Christi improved to 15-10 all-time at home and 7-1 over the last two seasons.
 
The Islanders will be back in action Friday when they open the Tulane Classic against New Orleans at 10:45 a.m. in Elmwood, Louisiana.
