Pertuit & Poletti Corrales Win SLC Pair of the Win, Islanders Play Home Opener Wednesday

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – After an impressive weekend against tough competition, sophomore Brooke Pertuit and junior Giuliana Poletti Corrales from the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi beach volleyball program were named the Southland Conference Pair of the Week.
 
The two will be in action again Wednesday when the Islanders (5-3) play their home opener at 12 p.m. against Mary Hardin-Baylor (2-4) at the Dugan Stadium Courts.
 
Poletti Corrales and Pertuit posted a 3-1 weekend on court one at the 2022 Tiger Beach Challenge, hosted by LSU. It included a big three-set win over the top team from No. 6 LSU in a come-from-behind 12-21, 21-15, 16-15 victory.
 
The Islanders No. 1 pair followed it up with a 2-0 day Sunday with straight-set wins over Southern Miss and UAB. They improved to 6-2 on the season.
 
It marked the second consecutive week that A&M-Corpus Christi won SLC Pair of the Week after grad student Micaela Mirabal and junior Aurora Carnes won last week. Mirabal and Carnes also carry at 6-2 record.
 
Mary Hardin-Baylor has wins this year over Missouri Baptist 3-2 and Cedar Valley 5-0. The team is looking to bounce back from a 5-0 defeat on the road at Stephen F. Austin. The program is in its first season.
 
A&M-Corpus Christi was 6-1 at home last year and 14-10 all-time at home since its inception in 2016.
