CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Three student-athletes from the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi men's basketball program earned recognition when the Southland Conference released its postseason awards including junior
Isaac Mushila who was named the Newcomer of the Year.
Mushila was honored on the All-Conference Second-Team and junior
Trevian Tennyson to the All-Conference Third-Team. Junior
Terrion Murdix was tabbed to the All-Defensive Team.
"A well-deserved recognition for Isaac, Tre and Terrion. These three have put a lot of time into continually improving their games and are dedicated members of our team this season. I look forward to seeing how much more they will continue to grow as student-athletes heading into the postseason and the years to come," said head coach
Steve Lutz.
Mushila, from Lubumbashi, Congo, nearly averaged a double-double with 14.1 points and 9.5 rebounds per game, including 13.4 points and 10.7 rebounds in conference games. He ranked sixth in the nation in offensive rebounds per game and led the league in rebounds.
Mushila notched 13 double-doubles and 23 double-figure scoring games on the year. He scored at least 20 points five times and grabbed at least 15 rebounds five times. His season-high was 28 points at UTRGV and 17 rebounds on three occasions.
Tennyson, an Arlington, Texas product, averaged 12.5 points per game on the season. He hit a three-pointer in every game and shot .372 (70-188) from long-range. He's third in the league in three-pointers made per game.
Tennyson has 18 double-figure scoring games on the year including a season-high 23 against Nicholls. He scored at least 20 points three times. Tennyson is also shooting .836 from the free throw line.
Murdix, a Springfield, Illinois native, led the team and ranked third in the conference in steals with 62 on the year. He averaged two steals per game and grabbed a season-high of five steals against Northwestern State. Murdix averaged 12.2 points per game in conference.
A&M-Corpus Christi earned a first round bye to the quarterfinals of the SLC Championship and will play Thursday, March 10 at 5 p.m. at the Merrell Center in Katy, Texas against either HBU or UIW.
