A&M-Corpus Christi Splits Day Two of Tiger Beach Challenge, Beats Southern Miss

BATON ROUGE, La. – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi beach volleyball program topped Southern Miss 3-2 before falling in another tight 3-2 decision to UAB on day two of the 2022 Tiger Beach Challenge at the LSU Beach Volleyball Stadium.
 
The Islanders move to 5-3 on the year, including 5-1 against unranked opponents.
 
"We played some great volleyball this weekend and had a few good individual wins under our belt, on top of our dual win against Southern Miss. We are learning from our losses and I cannot wait to get back in practice to work out the kinks," said head coach Gayle Stammer.
 
A 2-0 day came from the top flight of sophomore Brooke Pertuit & junior Giuliana Poletti Corrales as they didn't drop a set. They won the deciding match 21-17, 21-14 against USM. They followed it up with a 21-17, 21-17 victory over UAB.
 
Another 2-0 day came from the reigning SLC Pair of the Week winners of grad student Micaela Mirabal and senior Aurora Carnes. The duo knocked off USM 21-14, 21-17 and UAB 21-18, 21-13. Mirabal and Carnes improved to 6-2 on the year.
 
The team of Shea Slusser and Migle Mazurkeviciute also notched a win. They took down a USM pair 21-15, 21-15 for their fourth win of the season.
 
A&M-Corpus Christi beat USM for the second year in a row.
 
The Islanders will play their home-opener Wednesday when they host Mary-Hardin Baylor at 12 p.m. at the Dugan Stadium Courts.
