Islanders Toughened by Defeats to Top-Six Opponents

BATON ROUGE, La. – Even though the final scores didn't go its way, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi beach volleyball program gained valuable experience against a pair of teams ranked top-six in the country Friday at the 2022 Tiger Beach Challenge at the LSU Beach Volleyball Stadium.
 
The Islanders (4-2) fell to No. 6 LSU 4-1 and to No. 4 Loyola Marymount 5-0.
 
The highlight of the day was a victory at the top flight against LSU. Junior Giuliana Poletti Corrales and sophomore Brooke Pertuit registered a come-from-behind 12-21, 21-15, 16-14 over the top pair of Ashlyn Rasnick-Pope and Bella Bauman.
 
The Islanders nearly pulled out a pair of other matches but were nipped in three-setters. It included on court three with senior Migle Mazurkeviciute & junior Shea Slusser, and court four with reigning SLC Pair of the Week winners Aurora Carnes and Micaela Mirabal.
 
The tournament concludes Sunday with a 12 p.m. match against UAB, followed by a 2 p.m. match versus Southern Miss.
