BATON ROUGE, La. – After an undefeated opening weekend, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi beach volleyball program will look to duplicate its results when it competes in the 2022 Tiger Beach Challenge, hosted at the LSU Beach Volleyball Stadium.
Â
A&M-Corpus Christi (4-0) won't be the only unbeaten team showing up to the courts as it will battle a pair of teams ranked top-six in the nation. The Islanders will square off with No. 6 LSU at 11 a.m. and No. 4 Loyola Marymount at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
Â
The schedule concludes Sunday with a 12 p.m. match against UAB, followed by a 2 p.m. match versus Southern Miss.
Â
The Islanders are off to their first 4-0 start in program history. The team of grad student
Micaela Mirabal and senior
Aurora Carnes were named the Southland Conference Pair of the Week after not dropping a set in four matches at the HBU Tournament.
Â
A&M-Corpus Christi also garnered three wins from three different duos. It included the pairs of sophomoreÂ
Brooke Pertuit & junior Giuliana Corrales Poletti, senior
Migle Mazurkeviciute & junior
Shea Slusser and sophomore
Tori Johnson & freshman
Jade Bennett.
Â
On Saturday, the Islanders will be going for their first-ever win against a ranked opponent. LSU won Tulane's Green Wave Invitational last weekend with victories over Nicholls, Georgia State, Tulane and Spring Hill. LMU has wins over CSUN, No. 11 Cal, No. 17 Stetson and Long Beach State.
Â
UAB is 0-4 but has faced stiff competition including three ranked opponents. The Blazers fell to No. 3 Florida State, No. 6 TCU, No. 13 Florida Atlantic and North Florida at the Seminole Beach Bash. Southern Miss competed in the same tournament and also fell to TCU, Florida Atlantic, North Florida and Tampa.
