Beach Volleyball Hosts Conni & Jay Wise Islander Classic, Senior Day Saturday

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Hosting its fourth home tournament in program history, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi beach volleyball team will welcome Arizona, Arizona Christian and HBU on Friday and Saturday at Water's Edge Park for the Conni & Jay Wise Islander Classic.
 
The tournament will begin at 10:30 a.m. Friday with HBU facing Arizona. The Islanders will play their first match at 2:30 p.m. Friday against Arizona. A complete schedule of matches can be found below.
 
A&M-Corpus Christi (16-7), which is receiving votes in the national AVCA Top-20 Poll, is undefeated at home this year and enters the weekend having won five of its last six matches. Four of its losses on the season are against top-10 opponents in the country.
 
The Islanders are coming off a 3-1 weekend at the LSU Beach Invitational with a 4-1 win over a Tampa squad that was receiving votes. A&M-Corpus Christi's only defeat was to No. 4 Florida State where junior Giuliana Poletti Corrales and sophomore Brooke Pertuit registered a straight-set win on court one.
 
Corrales and Pertuit, the reigning and three-time SLC Pair of the Week winners, were 4-0 on the weekend and 18-5 on the year at the No. 1 position. The pair has won six matches in a row.
 
Also with double-digit wins this season are the teams of graduate Micaela Mirabal/senior Aurora Carnes and sophomore Tori Johnson/freshman Jade Bennett. Mirabal and Carnes have won 14 matches primarily on court four, and Johnson and Bennett have won 13, mainly on court two. Both duos have won SLC Pair of the Week this year.
 
After Saturday's 1 p.m. match against HBU, the Islanders will honor Mirabal and senior Migle Mazurkeviciute in a Senior Day ceremony. Both are on pace to graduate this spring term with Mirabal pursuing her Master's in communications and Mazurkeviciute her Bachelor's in marketing.
