Baseball Travels East To Face Northwestern State

NATCHITOCHES, La. - The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi baseball team utilized a day of travel to head a state over to play Northwestern State at Brown-Stroud Field in the second conference weekend series this season.

"We're focused on winning a weekend to try and win a league championship," said head coach Scott Malone. "These guys will be as talented or better than any pitching staff we face. That's their calling card. The challenge of the week is to win the series on the road after winning two of three against UIW."

The Islanders are coming to face the Demons after taking down Rice for the first time in program history. Prior to that, they defeated UIW 2-1 in the first conference series even run ruling the Cardinals in seven innings on Friday.

Sophomores Brendan Ryan and Max Puls continue to pave the way for A&M-Corpus Christi as both continue to hold a batting average over .300. Both of them are a part of only a trio to start every game this season with Tyler Linneweber, another sophomore, earning the distinction as well.

Ryan has continued to be unlucky in the hit by pitch category, being plunked for the fourteenth time against Rice bringing him up to being tied for second in all of Division I baseball. His accolades don't end there though as he's 23rd in the nation with 40 hits as Puls follows in 43rd with 38. Sophomore Josh Caraway slammed his fourth triple of the season to move up to fourth nationally.

Freshman Zach Garcia, junior Hayden Thomas and sophomore Jaime Ramirez Jr. are slated to take the mound in that order. Garcia was a reliever until he made his first start on the first game against UIW. Ramirez Jr. is in a similar boat, acting as a reliever until he is to take the start on Sunday.

The first game will take place on Friday at 6:30 p.m. before the teams will play again on Saturday and Sunday at 2:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m., respectively.
