Beach Volleyball Caps 3-1 Weekend with Win over UL-Monroe

BATON ROUGE, La. – Splitting a pair of matches Sunday, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi beach volleyball program fell 4-1 to No. 4 Florida State before ending the weekend on a high note with a 4-1 victory over UL-Monroe at the LSU Beach Invitational at the LSU Beach Volleyball Stadium.
 
The top A&M-Corpus Christi (16-7) duo of junior Giuliana Poletti Corrales and sophomore Brooke Pertuit registered an undefeated 4-0 weekend. After beating HBU and Tampa on Saturday, they turned it up another notch Sunday with a 21-19, 21-18 win against FSU and 21-19, 19-21, 15-13 victory over UL-Monroe.
 
Corrales and Pertuit improved to 18-5 on the year at court one and have won six in a row.
 
On court two, reigning SLC Pair of the Week winners sophomore Tori Johnson and freshman Jade Bennett posted a 21-16, 21-12 win over the Warhawks. Grad student Kiley Lewis Migle Mazurkeviciute also tallied a straight-set victory on court three with a 21-9, 21-13 decision.
 
Closing it out, junior Shea Slusser and freshman Kela Moreno came back to win a marathon 14-21, 21-17, 22-20 match on court five.
 
"Going into our final dual this weekend we were a little spent, but the team rallied to close out the dual against UL-Monroe. Our one's sealed it after our two's and three's won their courts. Our five's picked up the last win of the dual and showed true grit in the third game taking it 22-20," said head coach Gayle Stammer.
 
Next up, A&M-Corpus Christi will host the Conni & Jay Wise Islander Classic at Water's Edge Park beginning Friday. The Islanders will host Arizona, Arizona Christian and HBU.
