CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi baseball team fell to UIW 7-4 in the final game of the series at Chapman Field after claiming the series victory on Saturday night.
"I'm disappointed we didn't win, but I've been at this a long time," said head coach
Scott Malone. "They're a good team in our league and it's hard to win three days in a row. The biggest compliment I can give our guys is I never felt like we were losing and that we had them on the ropes."
Sophomore
Brendan Ryan made his way back into the lineup as a designated hitter after leaving yesterday's game early. He continued where he left off, hitting three for four with two runs and two runs batted in. Ryan also drew a walk, while getting hit by a pitch for the 13th time this season.
Junior
Leo Markotic performed behind the plate as well, getting a hit, run and two RBIs in the game. Markotic was the only other batter to collect multiple runs batted in during the game. In addition to that, Ryan and Markotic both slammed home runs out of the parks as well, showing off for the crowd.
Justin Taylor, a junior, was the second individual to get multiple hits with two, later going on to score a run.
A&M-Corpus Christi saw five pitchers take the mound as senior
Leo Perez got the start. Sophomore transfer
Sean Sieve came in during the third inning in relief of Perez. Sophomore
Jaime Ramirez Jr. pitched the longest with 4.2 innings, earning four strikeouts. Following the lefty were senior
Daniel Nelson and freshman
Marco Gutierrez.
Despite the loss, the Islanders walk away with their first conference series victory, notching the fifth one this season overall for three-game series. The wins have all come by splitting the games 2-1 against UT Arlington, Prairie View A&M, Stephen F. Austin, Nebraska and now UIW.
The Islanders will travel to Rice on Wednesday to compete, starting a seven-game road trip, excluding the exhibition game against the Corpus Christ Hooks.
