A&M-Corpus Christi Downs HBU & Tampa on Day One of LSU Beach Invitational

BATON ROUGE, La. – An unbeaten Saturday for the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi beach volleyball program included a pair of 4-1 wins over HBU and the University of Tampa at the LSU Beach Invitational at the LSU Beach Volleyball Stadium.
 
With the win over the Huskies, A&M-Corpus Christi (15-6) extended its winning-streak against SLC opponents in regular season matches to 17. It was the second win over HBU this season.
 
At the top of the lineup, junior Giuliana Poletti Corrales and sophomore Brooke Pertuit posted a 2-0 day to improve to 16-5 on the season at court one. Both of their wins were in straight sets including a 26-24, 21-14 victory over HBU and 21-16, 21-17 against Tampa.
 
A&M-Corpus Christi also went 2-0 on courts three and five. At the three spot, grad student Kiley Lewis Migle Mazurkeviciute notched a pair of three-setters. They started with a 21-14, 18-21, 15-13 win over HBU and followed it up with a 21-12, 17-21, 15-11 decision over Tampa.
 
On court five, junior Shea Slusser and freshman Kela Moreno ousted HBU 21-14, 21-16 before outlasting Tampa 21-15, 17-21, 16-14.
 
The reigning SLC Pair of the Week winners, sophomore Tori Johnson and freshman Jade Bennett, recorded a three-set win over Tampa 15-21, 21-17, 15-8. The team of grad student Micaela Mirabal and senior Aurora Carnes tallied a win over HBU 21-14, 19-21, 15-13.
 
The schedule concludes Sunday with a 9 a.m. match versus No. 4 Florida State (12-3) and a 12 p.m. contest against UL-Monroe (5-10).
