Islanders Register Pair of 5-0 Sweeps over ACU

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas –
Remaining unbeaten at home, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi beach volleyball program notched a pair of 5-0 victories over Abilene Christian on Wednesday at the Dugan Stadium Courts.
 
The Islanders (13-6), who are 13-3 against unranked opponents, did not drop a set in any of the 10 matches. A&M-Corpus Christi improved to 3-0 at home this year, 9-1 over the last two seasons and 17-10 all-time at home.
 
"ACU put up a fight, but our strong serving and consistent siding-out gave us a clean sweep today. The depth of our team is getting stronger with every dual we play. I'm looking forward to competing in another strong tournament at LSU this weekend," said head coach Gayle Stammer.
 
On court one, junior Giuliana Poletti Corrales and sophomore Brooke Pertuit cruised to a 21-8, 21-11 win in the first match before posting a 21-12, 21-19 victory in the second. The pair has played every match together this season at the No. 1 position for the Islanders and are 14-5.
 
Reigning SLC Pair of the Week winners sophomore Tori Johnson and freshman Jade Bennett stayed hot on court two. They won 21-17, 21-14 in match one and 21-18, 21-6 in the second.
 
The duo of grad student Kiley Lewis and Migle Mazurkeviciute breezed to a pair of wins on court three. They turned in a 21-7, 21-16 win in the first match and followed it up with a 21-10, 21-10 decision.
 
On court four, grad student Micaela Mirabal and senior Aurora Carnes were dominant in their two wins with the scores of 21-12, 21-12 and 21-6, 21-14.
 
Junior Shea Slusser teamed with freshman Kela Moreno to win 21-11, 21-14 in the first match. Slusser partnered with freshman Hannah Doyle for another victory 21-8, 21-12 in the second.
 
A&M-Corpus Christi improved to 7-0 all-time against ACU.
 
Up next, the Islanders will compete in four matches at the LSU Beach Invitational against HBU, Tampa, Florida State and UL-Monroe. The action begins Saturday at 10 a.m. against HBU.
