Team Huddles after Texas Game

Baseball Returns Home to Host Lamar

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi baseball team returns home to host Lamar University in the first matchup as non-conference opponents at Chapman Field, Wednesday at 6:00 p.m.

"We want to show well and play well," said head coach Scott Malone. "We've now put together two wins in a row and you want to keep that going. We're playing great baseball and I think the guys in the locker room feel good about where we are and we might be able to get better."

The matchup will be the first game the two teams have played at Chapman Field since April 2018. In the prior four matchups, the two teams have split the series 2-2 will all the games having been on the road.

Senior Cassius Shy looks to make his fifth start of the season with one win credited to him against Prairie View A&M. He has been the starter for nearly all of the midweek games since the season started. The last time Shy made an appearance was last Tuesday against No. 21 TCU.

Sophomore Brendan Ryan has been on a roll, having stolen 16 bases thus far this season to sit first in the Southland Conference and sixth in all of Division I baseball. He's also been hit by a pitch 11 times to again be first in the conference and sixth in the nation.

Both Ryan and senior Steven Rivera-Chijin are in the top-three in the conference in doubles with eight and seven respectively. Josh Caraway, a sophomore, is seventh in the nation with three triples, leading the conference as well.

As a team, they have collected 205 hits through 22 games this season to sit 37th nationally. They have also earned two shutouts, ranking 25th overall in Division I baseball.

After the lone midweek game against Lamar, the Islanders will take a day of rest before playing a three-game series against UIW at Chapman Field.
