Beach Volleyball Beats UNO, Falls to No. 3 TCU

FORT WORTH, Texas – In the final day at the Fight in the Fort on Saturday, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi beach volleyball program topped New Orleans 4-1 before falling to the host, undefeated and third-ranked TCU 5-0.
 
The Islanders (11-6) started their morning with the win over the Privateers (9-5). A&M-Corpus Christi extended its winning streak to 16 consecutive regular season matches over SLC opponents.
 
The Islanders improved to 11-3 this year against unranked opponents.
 
"We battled against ranked this weekend, but didn't come out on top this time. I'm happy with what we accomplished, walking away with two wins under our belt," said head coach Gayle Stammer.
 
A&M-Corpus Christi notched a trio of straight-set wins on courts two, three and four. Sophomore Tori Johnson and freshman Jade Bennett registered a 21-18, 21-15 victory, while grad student Kiley Lewis and senior Migle Mazurkeviciute won 21-18, 21-15.
 
Grad student Micaela Mirabal and senior Aurora Carnes cruised to a 21-13, 21-10. Junior Shea Slusser and freshman Hannah Doyle rounded out the lineup with a three-set 21-19, 16-21, 15-8 victory.
 
The Islanders are now 9-3 all-time against UNO and have won seven in a row.
 
Against TCU (18-0), the tightest match came on court four where Carnes and Mirabal grabbed a set. Though, they were edged 21-15, 18-21, 15-7.
 
A&M-Corpus Christi will return home Wednesday when it hosts Abilene Christian in a doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m.
