LINCOLN, Neb. - The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi baseball team will fly up to play Nebraska in a three-game series this weekend at Haymarket Park.
"Our pitchers are going to have to step up," said head coach
Scott Malone. "It's about the things we can control. We feel like we have one of the three best defenders in the Southland Conference in [sophomore]
Tyler Linneweber. He's going to go out and play shortstop really well."
Senior
Tyler Miller, junior
Hayden Thomas, and senior
Leo Perez are all projected to make starts on the weekend, in that order. The trio holds a 3-2 combined record and a total 5.98 ERA on the season. Each has faced formidable opponents, seeing the likes of a top-ranked Texas team at the time, Iowa and Wichita State.
Freshman
Zach Garcia has been one of the most efficient relievers for A&M-Corpus Christi with a 2.03 ERA, earning for two wins and a save. Transfer
Sean Sieve, a sophomore, has seen action as of late, making appearances against Prairie View A&M and Tarleton State this week.
Sophomore
Brendan Ryan continues to light his bat ablaze whenever he steps up to the plate, leading the team in batting, going 28 for 73 and collecting seven doubles and two home runs thus far. He has scored 18 times for the Islanders with
Max Puls, a fellow sophomore, scoring the second most with 12.
Puls has also shown prowess behind the plate, averaging .311 on 23 for 74 batting to bring in 16 RBIs. Puls has collected three doubles and a pair of triples and home runs. Four Islanders have hit two home runs, including Ryan and Puls, sophomore
Brandon Petkoff and junior
Leo Markotic.
Both teams are coming off of midweek games with the Islanders facing No. 21 TCU and Tarleton State while Nebraska saw Nebraska-Omaha and New Mexico State.
The first game will be played at 6:35 p.m. on Friday before continuing the series on Saturday at 2:05 p.m. and Sunday at 12:05 p.m.
