Islanders Dominate Panthers In Shut Out Win

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's baseball program earned its second shut-out win of the season with a dominating performance over Prairie View A&M 12-0 at Chapman Field. The Islanders ended the game in just seven innings with the run rule in effect, where a team leading by 10 after seven innings automatically ends the game.

"It all starts with [senior] Hayden Thomas," said head coach Scott Malone. "It's the get off the bus factor; we all feel like we're supposed to win. He went and put a zero up and turned the corner from yesterday and we had some big a- bats early.

Thomas improved his record to 2-1 on the season with the victory, pitching five innings over the course of the game. Sophomore Sean Sieve made his first appearance as an Islander, having joined the team in the offseason, and didn't allow a hit in an inning of work. Fellow sophomore Sebastian Mejia pitched the final inning to complete the shutout for the Islanders.

Sophomore Josh Caraway led the Islanders at the plate, collecting two hits in four plate appearances, while also earning two runs and two RBIs. A multitude of other hitters also collected two hits including freshman John Maldonado Jr., junior Brendan Ryan, and sophomores Brandon Petkoff and Max Puls

In his lone at-bat of the day, junior Leo Markotic hit a double, bringing in two runs which gave the Islanders the lead, sitting atop 2-0. Maldonado Jr., Petkoff, and sophomore Tyler Linneweber each brought in two RBIs for the team. The Islander batters ensured no pitcher left unscathed, getting at least one hit off of each Panther to enter the game.

Tons of other Islanders saw action throughout the day as sophomore Tre Jones led the pack, pinch-running for fellow sophomore Brandon Petkoff. Freshmen Cole Modgling and Chance Reisdorph also made appearances in the game.

A&M-Corpus Christi will get a day of rest while traveling before taking on No. 21 TCU, Tarleton State, and Nebraska on the road.
