Beach Volleyball Sweeps Nicholls 5-0 to Cap Tulane Classic

ELMWOOD, La. – In the tournament finale, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi beach volleyball program swept Nicholls 5-0 on Sunday at White Sands Volleyball Courts.
 
It wrapped-up a 3-1 weekend for the Islanders (3-1), who defeated New Orleans and UAB on Friday. Their only loss was a narrow 3-2 decision to the host Tulane.
 
A&M-Corpus Christi has won 16 consecutive regular season matches against SLC opponents dating back to 2019.
 
"I'm very proud of how the team handled this weekend. We showed a lot of grit in our tight loss against Tulane and our first win against UAB. We are getting stronger and more confident with every dual," said head coach Gayle Stammer.
 
A perfect 4-0 weekend came from the reigning SLC Pair of the Week winners junior Giuliana Poletti Corrales and sophomore Brooke Pertuit. They cruised to a 21-11, 21-18 victory over the Colonels.
 
On court two, sophomore Tori Johnson and freshman Jade Bennett breezed to a 21-16, 21-11 win. It was a similar result on court three where grad student Micaela Mirabal and senior Aurora Carnes won 21-16, 21-12.
 
The only three-setter came on court four. After dropping the first set, senior Migle Mazurkeviciute and junior Shea Slusser came back to win 18-21, 21-15, 15-12.
 
Grad student Kiley Lewis and freshman Hannah Doyle rounded it out on court five with a 21-12, 21-6 win.
 
A&M-Corpus Christi will play in-state next weekend at the TCU Tournament against TCU, Arizona State, Stephen F. Austin and New Orleans. The tournament begins Friday morning at 9:30 a.m.
