Baseball Hosts Prairie View A&M; Announces Schedule Changes

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's baseball team will host Prairie View A&M again this season, this time for a three-game series beginning on Saturday at noon at Chapman Field.

Due to inclement weather, the game that was to be held Friday night was postponed until Saturday at noon, making the day a doubleheader where they will play nine innings each game. Sunday's game will be held at the scheduled 1:00 p.m. start time.

"We beat them 7-0 last time, then they got on a bus and drove 12 hours to New Mexico State, a difficult place to play and beat them in a low scoring game," said head coach Scott Malone. "They've got some talent that's going to pitch on Friday. We're looking to put together three good games this weekend."

Sophomore Brendan Ryan has been making a name for himself this season, currently sitting tied for the tenth most stolen bases in Division I baseball. He leads the team with a .389 batting average while scoring the most for the Islanders with 13 runs and driving in the third-most RBIs at eight. The last time he faced the Panthers, he hit 2-4 with a double, scoring two runs and stealing one base in the performance. Ryan brought in two runs for a walk-off win against Saturday in 10 innings.

Sophomore Tyler Linneweber has been tearing up the field on the defensive side of the ball, earning 17 putouts while assisting 36 times this season. He's second on the team in double plays, helping with six. The only person to lead him in double plays is senior first baseman Steven Rivera-Chijin who has seven.

Malone praised Linneweber, saying, "I haven't seen the whole league yet, but it's hard not to say he's one of the three best defenders in the Southland Conference."

The Islanders shut out the Panthers 7-0 in their last matchup earlier last week. A&M-Corpus Christi leads the all-time series 27-1, looking to continue the stretch of dominance, having won seven games in a row against them.
