LAKE CHARLES, La. – Coming off a win at home, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi men's basketball program will look to bring momentum on the road when it heads to McNeese at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Legacy Center and HBU at 7 p.m. Saturday at Sharp Gym.
A&M-Corpus Christi (17-10, 4-6 SLC) posted a Homecoming win 83-76 over Northwestern State on Saturday. Junior
Terrion Murdix tallied 20 points, six rebounds and five steals, while junior
Isaac Mushila etched 17 points and 12 rebounds.
With the win, the Islanders clinched a winning season overall.
The Islanders will go for their third win over McNeese (10-18, 4-7 SLC) this season after defeating the Cowboys 67-54 on a neutral court at the SLC Preseason Tipoff, and 60-56 at home.
In the wins over McNeese, senior
De'Lazarus Keys recorded 16 points and seven rebounds in the first game and 12 points and 10 rebounds in the second. Mushila also scored in double-figures in both contests with 10 points and seven rebounds in game one and 18 points and a whopping 17 rebounds in game two.
On the season, Mushila averages 14.8 points and 10.0 rebounds per outing, including 14.9 points and 12.5 rebounds in conference. Mushila has 11 double-doubles on the year. Mushila, who did not start until the fifth game, has netted over 20 points five times.
Along with Mushila, Tennyson averages in double-figures with 12.9 points per game and 14.2 in conference in conference. Tennyson has hit a three-pointer in every game this year.
Murdix leads the SLC in assists (3.7 apg) and is third in steals (1.9 spg) and fourth in assist:turnover ratio (1.6). Murdix is averaging 12.5 points per game in conference.
A&M-Corpus Christi ranks eighth in the nation in offensive rebounds per game (13.56), 11th in turnovers forced per game (17.52) and 19th in steals per game (9.0). Individually, Mushila is sixth in offensive rebounds (3.63 orpg), 13th in total rebounds per game (10.0 rpg) and 18th in double-doubles (11).
McNeese is 6-3 at home this year and is trying to bounce back from a pair of road losses at Nicholls 82-73 and New Orleans 88-75. The Cowboys lead the league in rebounding (40.1 rpg), offensive rebounding (14.0 orpg) and rebounding margin (+6.1). Christian Shumate leads the team with 12.5 points per game.
HBU (8-15, 4-6 SLC) has also dropped two straight road contests 89-84 at Southeastern and 84-70 at Nicholls. The Huskies won the first meeting over the Islanders 77-71 in Corpus Christi as Darius Lee scored 25 points. Lee ranks third in the league in scoring with 17.0 points per outing.

Myles Smith netted 15 points.
- A&M-Corpus Christi has more than tripled its win total from last season when it finished 5-19 overall.
- All 13 student-athletes that have played for A&M-Corpus Christi this year have scored in double-figures in a game. The 13 is tied for the most in the nation with Bowling Green.
- A&M-Corpus Christi is 11-0 this season when holding the opposition to under 70 points.
- A&M-Corpus Christi is the only team in the SLC to have received votes this year in the CollegeInsider Mid Major Top-25 Poll.
- Smith continues to climb the school record books. He ranks fourth all-time in three-pointers made (153), sixth in assists (276), seventh in minutes (3,087) and ninth in double-figure scoring games (56). Smith has scored 1,146 points and is averaging 7.6 points per game this year.
- Senior
Simeon Fryer is the only student-athlete on the roster to start in every game this year. He's shooting .343 from long range which is a significant improvement from his .224 from last year. Fryer is averaging 7.7 ppg.
- John Jordan (2011-15) was inducted into the Islanders Hall of Honor at halftime of the Northwestern State game. In the school record book, he ranks first all-time in assists (652), first in minutes played (4,340) and free throws made (559). Jordan finished his career as the only active player in Division I with more than 1,500 points, 500 rebounds and 500 assists and is one of two players in Southland Conference history to ever accomplish that feat.
