STEPHENVILLE, Texas - On the last day of the Whataburger Softball Invitational, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi softball team was edged out by host Tarleton State 5-4 Sunday at the Tarleton State softball complex.
Tarleton State (10-0) got on the board first with two runs within the first two innings, however, the Islanders responded in the fourth when sophomore
Haley Morse got three RBIs on a triple to right field to give A&M-Corpus Christi (7-7) the lead 3-2.
The Texans followed it up with two more runs in the fourth and despite a late six-inning run by sophomore
Gabriella Torres to tie the game back up, Tarleton State edged out the win with one more run in the bottom of the sixth.
Torres accounted for two of A&M-Corpus Christi's runs and in addition, registered her sixth multi-hit game with two against the Texans. She is averaging a .350 and .575 slugging percentage.
Sophomore
Sydney Hoyt continues to lead the team in batting average with a .440. She is on a 10-game streak of reaching base. Sophomore
Kimane Rogron is on a five-game streak of registering a hit and got two in the competition with Tarleton State. She also added a run and an RBI to her record.
This was A&M-Corpus Christi's first loss to Tarleton State but the Islanders still have a 3-1 overall winning record against the Texans.
The Islanders will hit the road again when they travel to take on Sam Houston in a doubleheader on Wednesday starting at 4 p.m. The game will be live streamed through ESPN+.
