CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi softball team added two more wins and kept an undefeated record at home after beating out Prairie View A&M twice 12-11 and 7-2 on Wednesday at Chapman Field. It included an eight-run comeback with a walk-off by senior
Grace Gilbert.
Game one was a thriller as a late comeback by the Islanders secured their first win of the day over the Panthers (0-7). Down 11-3 going into the sixth, A&M-Corpus Christi (5-4) finally got the offense going and plated five runners to get back into the game.
The Islanders quickly filled the bases with no outs and an RBI by junior
Pal Egan began the stream of runs. Also earning an RBI in the inning was sophomore
Gabriella Torres, who advanced to second base on an error by the Panthers to put her in scoring position.
Both Egan and Torres contributed to the five total runs scored in the sixth, as well as freshman
Paolina Baez who turned in an impressive day. Baez turned in triple threes of runs, hits and RBIs and now leads the team in batting average at a .400.
Four more Islander runs came in the seventh inning. A single RBI by Gilbert walked it off for the Islanders to secure their first win of the day 12-11.

Sophomore Megan Depew opened the pitching for the Islanders in game two, and threw another complete game after doing the same against Green Bay yesterday. Depew struck out 4 Panthers and now records a 3.37 ERA.
Offensively, the Islanders got out to an early start in the second game and scored six times in the first inning. Torres earned her second RBI of the day to help record Egan's third run of the day. Egan has kept up her streak of making it on base in every game of the season.
Game two ended early due to darkness. With A&M-Corpus Christi leading 7-2 in the sixth, the game was called to give the Islanders the doubleheader sweep.
The Islanders are now 29-11 all-time against Prairie View and 18-4 at home.
Hitting the road this weekend, the Islanders will compete in the Tarleton State tournament beginning on Friday with a matchup against Alabama State at 9:30 a.m. CT.
