COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi softball team couldn't find a rhythm in its finale of the Texas A&M Aggie Classic as they dropped the game 1-13 against WKU on Sunday at Davis Diamond.
Junior
Pal Egan scored the only run of the game and also recorded two of the team's four hits on the day. After the weekend, she has the highest slugging percentage on the team at a .714 and has a total of three runs, four hits and three RBIs.
Despite the early run by Egan in the first inning, seven WKU (3-1) runs in the top of the second set the tone for the rest of the game.
Freshman
Paolina Baez earned the team's last hit of the game in the third inning to have both her and Egan on base but the Islanders were unable to bring the runners in. After five more runs by WKU, the game ended after five innings.
Junior
Ashleigh Sgambelluri earned a hit against the Hilltoppers and her third on the season. Over the weekend, she also recorded two RBIs and a .273 batting average.
In the circle, freshman
Alyssa Aguilar came in the fourth as relief. She pitched for the remaining of the game and didn't allow any more WKU hits or runs and struck out two. Junior
Beatriz Lara also struck out a Hilltopper to tally nine on the weekend.
A&M-Corpus Christi concludes the tournament with a 1-4 record with the team's only win coming from its matchup against UTA on Saturday. The Islanders took the lead in the 16-15 overall record between them and the Mavericks.
The Islanders will take the field again when they play their home opener on Tuesday hosting Green Bay for a double header at 1 and 3 p.m. at Chapman Field.
