CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - The Southland Conference named senior
Alecia Westbrook of the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's basketball team Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday.
Westbrook averaged a double-double on the week with 11.5 points and 13.0 rebounds per game. She grabbed at least 10 rebounds in both games, including matching her career-high of 16 rebounds in the 65-68 victory over UTRGV. Westbrook also matched her season-high of 17 points in the game to record her 21st career double-double and third this season.
Westbrook tallied three steals and a block over the two games. She leads the Islanders in both categories this year.Â
"I am very excited for Alecia to receive this recognition," said head coach
Royce Chadwick. "She is a tenacious rebounder and has an incredible will to win which carried us through a tough week."
On the season, Westbrook is averaging 9.8 points and 9.3 rebounds per game. She now tops the conference in rebounding average and ranks third in free throw percentage (.811).
Westbrook and the Islanders will have the week off before hosting St. Thomas (TX) on Monday, December 12 at 7 p.m. in the Dugan Wellness Center. It will be the fourth home game this season for A&M-Corpus Christi as the team will look to extend its home-winning streak to 18 games.
