SAN MARCOS, Texas - Coming off a historic defensive performance at home, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's basketball team will try and take that momentum to Texas State for a Friday meeting at 7 p.m. CT in Strahan Arena.
The Islanders (4-5) hosted St. Thomas to start the week and dominated both ends of the court for a 80-23 victory. The 23 points topped the previous school record of fewest points allowed in a game, which was set at 32 after the Islanders beat UTEP 69-32 in 2001-02. The game also marked the first time this season the Islanders scored 80+ points in a game and shot above 50 percent from the field (54.5).
Sophomore
Jaeda Whitner came off the bench against the Celts to lead the team and turn in her career-high 13 points. It was her second double-figure scoring game and fourth to have made multiple three-pointers in a game this season.
A&M-Corpus Christi leads the Southland in defense scoring (56.3 ppg), opponent FG percentage (.358), opponent 3FG percentage (.255), rebounding margin (2.3), and combined opponent rebounds (34.2 rpg). The Islanders rank second in scoring margin (+3.6) and in assist:turnover ratio (0.79).
Individually, senior
Alecia Westbrook leads the Southland in rebounding with 9.0 rpg and third in FT percentage at .829. Junior
Violeta Verano ranks third in assist:turnover ratio at 1.0 and in assists at 3.2 apg. Whitner ranks fifth in 3FG percentage at .440.
Redshirt senior
Makinna Serrata is the leading scorer for the Islanders, having scored in double figures six times this season. She is the only Islander to average in double digits with 11.0 ppg.
Texas State (6-2) is undefeated at home this season and most recently beat Morgan State 58-50 in San Marcos. Tianna Eaton, who played in her 100th career collegiate game in the meeting with Morgan State, leads the Bobcats in scoring with 12.0 ppg through all eight games.
The Bobcats lead the Sun Belt in turnover margin (7.13) and assist:turnover ratio (1.18). They were predicted to finish fifth in the preseason poll.

NOTES
- Friday will be the first meeting between Texas State and A&M-Corpus Christi since 2020. The last time the Islanders beat the Bobcats was 68-60 in San Marcos during the 2013-14 season. The Bobcats lead the all-time record 17-5.
- All 15 players on the roster have seen time on the court and at least 14 players have played in a singular game four times this season.
- The Islanders are 4-0 when holding the opposition to under 60 points and when posting a positive turnover margin.
- Junior
Paige Allen was a freshman on the 2020 squad that last faced Texas State and scored a team-high 15 points after going 7-of-11 from the floor. She entered that game leading the conference in steals with 3.6 per game and grabbed four that game.
- Both Serrata and Westbrook are on track to reach the 1,000 career points-milestone this season. Serrata has 801 career points and Westbrook has 861.
- A&M-Corpus Christi was picked to finish first out of ten in the SLC Preseason Poll, the first time in program history, with 11 first-place votes.
