Men’s Basketball Hosts Schreiner at 11 a.m. Friday on Education Day

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Welcoming kids from all over the region, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi men's basketball program returns home to host Schreiner at 11 a.m. Friday in the Dugan Wellness Center.
 
A&M-Corpus Christi (5-5) is excited to bring in students from Zavala Elementary, Crockett Elementary, Gibson Elementary, Evans Elementary and West Oso Elementary.
 
The Islanders are 4-0 at home this year with double-figure wins by at least 18 points over UTSA, Trinity and UTRGV. A&M-Corpus Christi is 215-106 all-time at home.
 
A&M-Corpus Christi just completed a stretch of five of six games away from home. It included 20 days between home games.
 
In the team's last home game, the Islanders notched a 100-63 win over Texas Lutheran, the alma mater of head coach Steve Lutz. Both Isaac Mushila and Simeon Fryer tallied double-doubles and were two of five Islanders to score in double-figures.
 
Mushila ranks fourth in the nation in offensive rebounds per game (4.3), seventh in rebounds per game (10.8) and 12th in double-doubles (5). He averages a double-double of 15.2 points and a league-leading 10.8 rebounds per game.
 
Mushila is one of four Islanders averaging in double-figure scoring along with senior Trevian Tennyson (12.1 ppg), senior Terrion Murdix (10.9 ppg) and graduate Ross Williams (10.9 ppg).
 
Schreiner is off to a 6-5 start. The Mountaineers compete in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference. Starting center Kamden Ross leads the team with 12.5 points, 9.5 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game.
 
NOTES
- The Islanders are 2-0 all-time against Schreiner but it will be the first meeting since Feb. 2, 2004.
 
- The Islanders are 7-3 in the month of December under head coach Steve Lutz in two seasons. Their only losses are against Power Five schools Minnesota, Notre Dame and Arizona.
 
- A&M-Corpus Christi ranks 16th in the nation in steals per game (10.2), 17th in turnovers forced per game (18.2) and 22nd in free throw percentage (.768).
 
- In two seasons under Lutz, the Islanders are 11-0 when they shoot over 50 percent from the field. They are 19-1 when the opposition scores below 70 points.
 
- The Islanders rank second in the Southland Conference in NET Rankings at 187 out of 363 Division I schools (as of Dec. 15). A&M-Corpus Christi ended last season at 243.
 
- A&M-Corpus Christi is 6-0 against non-Division I opponents under Lutz.
