Women's Basketball Returns Home Against St. Thomas

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's basketball team will be back in action to face St. Thomas (TX) Monday night at 7 p.m. in the Dugan Wellness Center.
 
The Islanders (3-5) are coming off a nine-day silent period, last playing UTRGV back on Dec. 3 at the American Bank Center. The 65-58 win over the Vaqueros was powered by a 16-0 run in the final eight minutes of the game to keep A&M-Corpus Christi undefeated at home and extend its home-winning streak to 17 games, the fourth longest in the nation.
 
In the Southland, A&M-Corpus Christi ranks first in opponent 3FG percentage (.265) and second in opponent FG percentage (.385), opponent FT percentage (.716), and combined opp. rebounds (35.3 rpg).

Individually, senior Alecia Westbrook leads the Southland in rebounding with 9.3 rpg and third in FT perfecntage at .811. Junior Violeta Verano ranks fourth in assist:turnover ratio at 0.9 and fifth in assists at 3.0 apg. 
 
Westbrook earned a Southland Player of the Week nod after averaging a double-double of 11.5 points and 13.0 rebounds over the pair of games against UTRGV. She matched her season-high 17 points and her career-high of 16 rebounds for her 21st career double-double in game two against UTRGV.
 
Redshirt senior Makinna Serrata has recorded five double figure scoring games this season and leads the team in scoring with 11.1 ppg.
 
St. Thomas (1-8) will have a quick turnaround after dropping an exhibition game to HCU on Saturday. The Celts got a 16-point win over Birmingham Southern this season that came after forcing 31 turnovers and having three players score in double figures.
 
On the season, the Celts are led by Hayden Morin and Alexya Castillo who average 12 and 10 points per game, respectively.

NOTES
- A&M-Corpus Christi is a perfect 4-0 all-time against St. Thomas, with each meeting having been played in Corpus Christi. The Islanders average 76 points per game against the Celts.
 
- The Islanders are 218-144 all-time at home and 57-28 in the Dugan Wellness Center. They have home wins over UTRGV, Texas Lutheran and Western Colorado and have outscored the opposition 198-142 at home this season.
 
- A&M-Corpus Christi has never allowed the Celts to score more than 55 points. The Islanders are 3-0 this season when keeping the opposition to under 60 points and when posting a positive turnover margin.
 
- All 15 players on the roster have seen time on the court and at least 14 players have played in a singular game three times this season.
 
- A&M-Corpus Christi was picked to finish first out of ten in the SLC Preseason Poll, the first time in program history, with 11 first-place votes. Westbrook and Serrata were tabbed to the Preseason All-Conference First-Team.
