CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Coming off a dominate home-opening victory, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's basketball team will look to stay hot at home as it welcomes Western Colorado on Sunday at 2 p.m. CT in the Dugan Wellness Center.
It will be the second-straight home game for the Islanders (1-2) who are coming off 32-point win over Texas Lutheran in its home opener last Wednesday. The Islanders extended their home-winning streak to 15 games with the 70-38 win.
During it, senior
Alecia Westbrook notched her first double-double of the season with 14 points and 15 rebounds, along with blocking three shots. She was one rebound shy of matching her career-high of 16 rebounds, which she set against Schreiner on Dec. 17, 2021. She was also one block shy of her career-high four blocks, set three separate times.
Along with Westbrook, sophomore
Maya Ellis and redshirt senior
Makinna Serrata have both turned in double-figure scoring performances so far this season. Ellis knocked in her career-high three field goals from long-range to record 11 points in the season opener at Texas Tech. Serrata shot 50% from the field against Texas A&M to notch her season-high 10 points.
All 15 student-athletes saw time on the court against Texas Lutheran for the second game in a row, with four recording their career-high scoring as an Islander. Freshman
Bruna Anguera got nine points, sophomore transfer
Jaeda Whitner tallied five, and junior transfer
Deja Williams scored her first bucket of the season for two points.
Graduate student
Kristen Daniels turned in career-highs of seven points and seven rebounds in the home opener after sitting out last season due to injury.
Western Colorado (1-3) is coming off its first win of the season right down the road at Texas A&M-Kingsville, taking it 62-56 in overtime. They were paced by Emmery Wagstaff who turned in a double-double of 25 points and 10 rebounds. She hit five field goals from behind the three-point line in her effort, a season-high for the Mountaineers.
Sunday will mark the first-ever meeting between A&M-Corpus Christi and Western Colorado. The game can be watched on ESPN+ with Doug Kesterson on the call.

- A&M-Corpus Christi is now 216-144 all-time at home and 56-28 in the Dugan Wellness Center.
- The Islanders currently hold the seventh longest home-winning streak in the nation at 15 games. The win over Western Colorado would extend it to 16 games and move the Islanders up to the sixth longest home-winning streak in the nation.
- All 15 student-athletes on A&M-Corpus Christi's 2022-23 roster saw time on the court in both its the previous two games.
- A&M-Corpus Christ has either outrebounded or tied all its opponents this season in offensive rebounds, including against two Power Five programs.
- Westbrook recorded her 19
th career double-double in the home opener against Texas Lutheran. In the record book, she is one double-double away from matching the program's career record. Westbrook also moved into third all-time in the program's career record for defensive rebounds at 450.
- The Islanders are receiving votes in the CollegeInsider Mid-Major Top-25 AP Poll. They are the only team from the Southland Conference to be represented.
