Islanders Primed to Defend Home-Winning Streak

November 15, 2022

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – After posting a 14-0 home record last year, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's basketball team will look to extend that streak in the 2022-23 home opener against Texas Lutheran Wednesday night in the Dugan Wellness Center.

The game is set for a 7 p.m. CT tip-off and can be watched live on ESPN+ with Doug Kesterson on the call.

It will be the first home game for the Islanders (0-2) since March, when they completed the feat of an undefeated home season for the first time in program history. The final home win also marked head coach Royce Chadwick's 211th career league win, making him the winningest coach in SLC history.

The home-winning streak of 14 games in currently tied for seventh longest in the nation.

The Islanders are coming off opening week spent on the road at two Power Five opponents in Texas Tech and Texas A&M. The Islanders kept both the Lady Raiders and the Aggies to under 70 points.

Redshirt senior Makinna Serrata notched her first double-figure scoring game of the season with 10 points in College Station. It was her 33rd career double-figure scoring game.

Freshman Bruna Anguera knocked in a pair of threes against the Aggies and one against Texas Tech, making her the only player on the team to have scored from long-range in both games this season. Sophomore Maya Ellis leads the team with 17 points after matching her career-high of four field goals made against Texas Tech.

Texas Lutheran (0-2) is coming off two losses on the road during opening week, most recently dropping 64-55 to fellow Division-III McMurry. The Bulldogs had Taylor Skurka record a team and career-high 12 points in the game with Kailee Mulkey pulling down eight rebounds to go along with eight points and two steals.

The Islanders are a perfect 3-0 in the all-time record over the Bulldogs, with Wednesday being just the fourth meeting between the programs. The last matchup was in 2018-19 where A&M-Corpus Christi held Texas Lutheran to under 50 points for a 73-49 win.
