CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's soccer earned its first tie of the season against McNeese in a 1-1 showdown at the Dr. Jack Dugan Soccer & Track Stadium Friday night.
"I think they did really well with the second half," said head coach
Craig Shaw. "We threw everything and the kitchen sink at them. I'm really proud of how they responded to the first half performance and that shows quality."
The Cowgirls scored the first goal of the game at 14:17 into the game. The Islanders retaliated just over seven minutes into the second half as sophomore
Morgan Westbury scored her fourth penalty kick goal of the season, putting her atop Division I women's soccer in the category.
The Islanders took seven corner kicks compared to just one for McNeese. As a whole, A&M-Corpus Christi outshot the Cowgirls 13-2 with five shots being on target.
Sophomore forward
Storm Harris took four shots in the effort with half of them on target, playing in 48 minutes for the blue and green. Westbury had the second-most with three shots and two on goal. The Islanders saw both junior
Kennedy Stelling and sophomore
Zoe Theriot in the net.
A&M-Corpus Christi will take to the road for two games against Southeastern and Nicholls after taking the week to recoup.
