HAMMOND, Louisiana – Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's women's soccer team fell to Southeastern in a narrow 2-1 loss at the Southeastern Soccer Complex Friday night.

"Sometimes in soccer, the better teams don't win," said head coach
Craig Shaw. "We fought hard and had the most chances, but it wasn't meant to be. We will bounce back."

The Islanders fought valiantly through the night, outshooting Southeastern 7-6 with five being on target. With their lone goal, the team has now scored in three consecutive games, bringing its single-season goal total to 29.

The Lions scored the first two goals of the match with the first coming off an own goal at the 8:16 mark. Southeastern earned the second goal just under 25 minutes into the match.

Mai-Lisa Atis, a freshman, earned the first goal of the night for the Islanders with 40:53 on the clock to cut the lead in half. Redshirt junior
Natalie Gonzalez was credited with the assist for the goal.

Zoe Theriot played the first 45 minutes in the net for the Islanders before junior
Kennedy Stelling earned the second-half start. Theriot earned one save in the effort against three shots. Stelling faced three shots and earned saves for each shot faced.

Morgan Westbury led the charge for A&M-Corpus Christi in shots with three as one was on target. Atis and junior
Maggie Murray each took two shots with half of them on goal.
A&M-Corpus Christi will travel to Thibodaux to face Nicholls at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday at the Nicholls Soccer Complex.
