Lamar Escapes A&M-Corpus Christi 2-1

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's women's soccer team fell to Lamar 2-1 at home on Sunday afternoon at the Dr. Jack Dugan Soccer & Track Stadium.

"I am beyond proud of these ladies," said head coach Craig Shaw. "Normal teams would give up with the bad luck we have had the past two weeks, but this team is special and no one will want to play us in the tournament."

Larmar was awarded the first goal of the game at 21:31 when the Islanders had an own goal for the 1-0 advantage. A&M-Corpus Christi fought back and scored the game-tying goal at the 57:35 mark off of the head of junior Rebekah George. The Cardinals earned the game-winning goal at 88:56 time to take the contest.

Junior Kennedy Stelling played all 90 minutes in the goal for the Islanders, recording six saves in the effort, only allowing two kicks to squeak by. She faced 14 kicks on the day with seven being on target.

George was assisted in her goal by sophomore Morgan Westbury who was credited with the assist. The team combined for five shots in the match with George leading the way with two, both on target, and three other players combining for the rest.

A&M-Corpus Christi will play their regular-season finale on the road at HCU on Friday, October 28 before looking forward to the Southland Conference Tournament.
